How to Fit in Exercise Even When Flying
Try squeezing in a workout before or after your day of travel.
You may have to get up early to catch your flight, but why not get up a little earlier to do a 20-minute workout? In 20 minutes you can more fully wake yourself up and start the day refreshed and productive. It can be really worth it, and if you’re not an early riser, try working out when you get off your flight and arrive at your ultimate destination.
It will help you work off the stiffness and tension from sitting on a long flight.
Walk around the airport during long waiting periods.
If you’re at your gate an hour early, have a delay, or have a long layover, those are perfect times to get a little exercise in. Take your stuff with you and walk around the airport.
Carrying your luggage around may be tiring, but it will also be a good workout. Additionally, walking around can help you loosen up your legs so you won’t feel so fidgety on the plane.
Bring some small, lightweight workout gear.
If you don’t want to calendar in a workout on the day of your flight, try bringing the workout gear with you. Small, portable resistance bands like these are perfect for travel. You can tone your arms while sitting at the gate.
Just loops the band around your forearms and pull your arms away from each other in short bursts. It’s a simple, easy workout, that won’t even bother the people nearby. It’s quiet and should hardly give cause for you to break a sweat.
Wear those ‘athleisure clothes you love’
I don’t know about you, but I love athleisure. If you haven’t heard of it, it is the ultimately ideal. Athleisure is when you wear athletic clothing, even when you’re at leisure.
Athleisure clothing is perfect for travel, though! Wearing athletic clothing can remind you to get that workout in, and it’s comfortable. It really can be the perfect travel outfit.
Ultimately, exercising while traveling can be quite beneficial for you. Planes equal stiffness and soreness, but exercise can help prevent and/or relieve it. Next time you travel, remember these tips, and you will be very grateful.
I know I am going to definitely try to motivate myself to follow these tips. Maybe it will even help with jet lag. Let’s hope so! If only they would have workout rooms, or even gyms at the airport.
