6 Reasons to Go On a Day Hike ASAP
1. You need it for your soul.
I don’t care if you are on a hike right now or haven’t been outside between the hours of 9 to 5, like ever. Whatever your situation is, you need a day hike. You need to get outside and get some fresh air. You need to stretch your legs. You need to take a mental break from all that’s bogging you down and just forget about it as you climb a mountain. You need it because you’ve never hiked anything truly worthwhile or you need it because you love hiking everything.
We all need hiking, whether that’s because the outdoors is where we feel at ease, or because we need to face our fears of exercise, and put on those hiking shoes. We need it. You need it. You need to go on a hike ASAP.
2. The sun will take care of you.
Again, we’re going to talk about your needs. You may need to get some sun. Not only does the sun provide your body with Vitamin D, but it also provides you body with something we find even more appealing: sunshine. Sunshine itself is a beautiful word, but actually being outside, hiking in the sunshine, is a truly wonderfully magnificent feeling. It should make you want to sing and dance, as well as put on some sunblock if you’re a little pale.
As the sun shines gently on your skin, it will cure your frown. Go try it. The smile you’ll get is on us.
3. The trees will whisper peace into your soul.
Have you ever stopped to really listen to the trees? They really do whisper. They whisper in silence. They tell you that you will be okay. They tell you that life does not have to be so humanly complicated. The trees are rooted and they will not let your soul be damp with worry.
Listen to the trees.
Get outside right now and hear what they have to say.
4. Your body needs a stretch, outside of the gym.
Maybe you climb the stairs at your office, or make it a goal to go to the gym three times a week; or perhaps you struggle to do any sort of athletic activity. It does not matter your circumstance.
Your body needs a break. Your hard-working frame needs some fresh air and a good stretch on that brown dirt under bright blue skies.
5. You need a break from technology.
I don’t know about you, but lately, I can’t seem to get away from technology. There’s so much to see and do on social media, and then work itself is on a computer. Sometimes, I just need a break. I need to get outside and be under the glare of the sun, not staring at the glare of a computer screen.
If needs be, go on a technology fast, as much as is possible. Turn off your social media notifications and forget about taking photos for Instagram. Just exist. Go outside and remember what it’s like to hike and simply be a person, existing in the midst of nature.
6. Your hiking gear is sorely underused.
The last reason to go on a day hike as soon as possible is this: you bought some hiking gear, hoping it would improve your hiking experience and motivate you to get outside more, but you hardly use it. Well, let that underused gear be your motivation again today. Put on those cute athleisure leggings, grab your lightweight hiking backpack, and hit the trails. It’s time to use the hiking gear that has been calling your name since last summer when you put it in storage.
