Some holidays seem to have a greater demand for unhealthy eating than others. Here is a list of some healthier spooky Halloween treats that the whole family will enjoy.
1. Pumpkin Center Piece
Start off with a fun and adorable center piece that is guaranteed to make even the youngest pickiest of the group smile and want to go back for seconds. Adding fruits to any event gives the full flavor of the sweets without the heaviness of all of the sugar. Fruit also adds vibrate colors to any table top spread. Fruit is a great source of vitamins as well as giving kids that extra energy without the “drop” that sugar does. Decorating with different types of fruit can be fun as well as a great healthy option.
2. Vegetable Trays
Don't forget to add a cute and decorative vegetable piece of finger sized easy to grab vegetables. You can have some extra fun by cutting into your vegetables to make spooky faces. There are so many creative ways to stack, cut or place your veggies to make the spookiest of creations. Of course don't forget to add some yogurt based dipping sauces for those who like a little extra to their veggies. 3. Decorative Hot Dogs
Mummy dogs are a must at any holiday party. These fun little mummies are a great way to get those little helpers involved. They are fun for the kids to wrap up and watch their creations turn into a spooky treat that everyone will love. Kids will tend to eat more of what they help to prepare so getting them involved and watch their creative sides come out. Also putting on the eyes at the end is something every child can do and have fun with.
4. Spider Sandwiches
PB & J spiders are a treat that just about everyone will snack on. These crazy little creations are just about the easiest idea for even the youngest of the family to help prepare. The only trick to these is actually getting all of the pretzel legs put into the sandwich before they all get snacked on and eaten right up.
5. Fruit and Vegetable Trays
Fruit and vegetable plates can be designed with any age group in mind. From thousands of characters to choose from all you need is the right colors and combinations of fruits and veggies to create that perfect creation suited for your party. 6. Finger Foods for Little Ones
These little finger foods are perfect for those little hands and taste buds. These simple yet adorable ghosts and pumpkins are entertaining for even the youngest crowd. These are a perfect craft project for those little ones who want to help out with the decorations. Just grab yourself some bananas, clementines and chocolate chips to throw together this simple party snack.
7. Monster Apples
Here is another great craft idea for those little ones. Parents can cut up the apples slices and strawberry tongues then have the kids put them together for those little teeth that every child loves to chomp on. Putting the googly eyes is always a favorite for the kids too. This creative little treat is sure to be a show stopper, but make sure to make plenty since they will go quick with their cute appearance and healthiness!
8. Hot Dishes
This tasty dish is one that can be prepared earlier in the day to save a little time. Using a crock pot slow cooker you can slice those hot dogs into strips and slow cook them with any type of baked beans. This makes for a crawling good time and a wiggly way to eat worms. You might want to show your little ones the cut up hot dogs before they get a plate so they aren't confused into believing they are real worms.
9. Deviled Eggs
This one is my personal favorite. I loved deviled eggs and I love olives so it is a perfect combination to add to any healthy halloween food table. This is a food that can be prepared in advance too and refrigerated before the party. These little creepy crawlies are a great way to add some spook to your table as well as some great color. Putting the olive spiders on the eggs is a good way to get the kids involved as well.
10. Dips and Chips
Last but certainly not least is our pumpkin spookamole. This can be spiced up for a more adult flavor or mild for the not so daring souls.
