The Reason Vision Boards Work and How to Make One

Visualization can be an incredibly powerful tool in helping you identify and achieve your goals.

There’s not a matter bogus superstition but a physiological phenomenon that has been scientifically measured. Weightlifters who imagine lifting a heavy weight actually activate the same areas of the brain as if they were actually performing the task.

That means that imagining your goals and dreams actually manifests them not only psychologically but also in real life. What’s even more incredible is that you can tap into this superpower simply by creating a vision board.

That’s right, all you need is some free time, the right mindset and some school supplies to be bring your goals to life. Here’s how to do it.

Clear Your (Head) Space

Before you get crafting, you need to tackle the real work – figure out what it is that you really want. For this you ideally need some personal space that is free of distractions and clutter, as this can translate to mental clutter.

Likewise, you should take the time to breathe and meditate to clear your headspace as well.

You can choose to burn some of your favorite incense, a candle or play some relaxing music to get you in the right mindset.

Write Down Your Goals

In this step, it really helps to physically connect with your goals and write them out rather than typing.

We recommend you come up with three short-term goals, three long-term and three goals that fall somewhere in the middle. This ensures that you’ll see a steady payoff in success.

These can be unrelated or serve as benchmarks for the same overarching theme. For example, if your goals is to get healthier, you could break it down into short, middle and long term goals such as: eating more plant-based foods, sticking to an exercise regime for longer than 3 months, and finally lowering your cholesterol level.

While there are really no rules to setting your goals, try to decide whether you’re focusing your vision on one or multiple aspects of your life. For instance, if you’re only looking to inspire your career, focus on that. Otherwise, it’s good to draw from multiple aspects of your life to form a well-rounded set of goals.

For instance, a mansion and a multimillion-dollar bank account may be some of your goals, but you should take the time to consider your relationships, your health and spiritual development as well.

Get Your Supplies and Get Creative!

Some people would assume this as the first step, but getting your materials after you’ve set your intentions will make you naturally gravitate to images and items that symbolize them.

You can choose anything from poster board to a pin board to set up your collage and just about anything to put on it. It’s really a matter of tapping into your creativity and channeling your innermost desires.

Try to focus on what your goals and intentions make you feel and pick images that echo that feeling. You can choose to create a vision board for each of your nine goals, or put them all in one big picture.

Keep Your Goals Visible

Now that’s it’s finished, you should place your vision board somewhere you will see it often around the house. The incredible thing about vision boards is that your initial effort is all that’s required for a continued payoff.

In fact, all you have to do to re-establish your goals is notice your vision board. That’s because the symbols you have created are already charged with the meaning you assigned to them. Their power only gets stronger with time and repetition.

Once you’ve made your desires known through your vision board, you’ll likely start to notice the effects very quickly. Be sure to pay special gratitude for each of the gifts being bestowed on you by the Universe, as this will increase your awareness and naturally invite more of those gifts into your life.

You probably already have all the supplies you need to get started, so go ahead and unlock your life’s fullest potential!
