If you’re anything like me then you probably have an overloaded schedule, people you are responsible for and places to be! You set a fitness goal and things start to work out for a few days, but then quickly life catches back up and you’re pulled into your responsibilities. You don’t even realize how much time has passed since your last workout when you realize, yup, I got too busy for that again.
Making time to achieve personal goals can be difficult, let alone a fitness goal! Getting sweaty, jumping in the shower and recomposing yourself can take up time! But in reality, setting a health and fitness goal can be accomplished no matter what your schedule looks like.
The biggest thing I constantly remind myself is, “if it’s important I’ll make it happen, if it’s not… well I won’t”.
Now you might be thinking, “its’ pretty dang important, you just don’t understand the workload I’m under.” And to an extend that's true! But I do know that human beings are capable of more than what we believe!
Taking these 3 small steps right away will help you see the changes you desire in your life!
A lot of us set incredibly large goals for what we want our bodies to be (which is fantastic), but it won’t happen over night.
Begin realistic and be consistent. If you only have 10 minutes in a day TAKE IT! Don’t expect yourself to be able to dedicate an hour at the gym right away. Be proudof the 10 minutes or so that you can take and feed off that fuel! Maybe your results will come slower, but hey, you are still one step closer than you were yesterday.
When you are constantly on the go, you speed through life. Sometimes you don’t even realize what you ate during the day or how long you sat at the desk!
By tweaking little details in your day, you can begin to form lifelong habits quickly. Grab an apple in the morning to keep as your emergency snack (healthy brain food!)
Throw out those high calorie drinks and keep a bottle of water around to hydrate your muscles and joints. Or (like I'm sure you've heard before), take the stairs instead of the elevator!
When you notice your body has been stagnant for too long get your blood flowing! Walk around the building or house. These little breaks are the perfect opportunity for resetting yourself and encouraging creative thinking.
Whether it’s excelling in work or at school, the drive to be better motivates most all of us! If you find yourself constantly starting, ending and re starting your fitness and health goals then maybe you need to analyze why you want that goal in the first place.
If your motivation factor isn’t strong enough to keep you consistent, then find a better one.
Creating a competition whether it’s with someone, or competing against yourself sets deadlines for your goal. Make it friendly, but also challenging and that busy bee inside of you will work to prioritize time you didn’t think you had. And hey, you can even start a sport to really through in some fun competition!
Being busy is, in a way, just an excuse. Life goes through phases – school, work, marriage, kids etc. and every phase with come with its series of different responsibilities. When you want something bad enough you can make it happen! Just remember that small and consistent steps (even if you’d rather be taking leaps) will still push you further than you were yesterday.
It’s all about a day-by-day commitment and being proud of whatever you can accomplish no matter what level.
