Yoga has always intrigued me, but for some reason, I never really tried the practice until this summer. Man,I wish I would’ve started sooner, but I’m glad that I have yoga on my side now.
There are so many benefits! It’s starting to feel like yoga is my best friend.
When you hear people say thatyoga is an amazing, healing practice, they’re not lying! It’s true! I started yoga and I feel so much better. I didn’t think that I needed to ‘feel better,’ but there’s something about this soothing practice that makes you feel whole. Here’s what I’ve noticed after doing yoga every day.
I'm happier. Yes, exercise in general can release endorphins and cause a whole domino of effects, including happiness, but YOGA HAS GIVEN ME TRUE HAPPINESS THAT LASTS MORE THAN JUST A FEW HOURS.The practice itself makes me feel better, but it’s what the practice teaches me that really helps me be happy.
LEARNING ABOUT MY BODY AND MY MIND has helped me be more at peace and cheerful. I feel whole. Plus, all of these other benefits below add to the positive vibes.
I HAVE MORE CONTROL. Yoga teaches you to be mindful of your thoughts and aware of your body. When I practice yoga every day, I learn how to have more control of my emotions and energy. I learn to be a better and more focused me, even when I leave my practice and spend the day elsewhere.
Jason Crandall explained it beautifully: “THE NATURE OF YOGA IS TO SHINE THE LIGHT OF AWARENESS INTO THE DARKEST CORNERS OF THE BODY.”
MY STRESS ISN'T STRESSING ME OUT AS MUCH. When you combine the happy vibes and increased control that come as a result of yoga, stress doesn’t wreak so much havoc any more.
With yoga, I’m learning to live in the moment, breath by breath, allowing myself to forget about what’s worrying me and just exist. “BREATHE AND RELEASE ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT SERVE YOU.”
I WANT A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE. I always ‘want’ to be healthier, but yoga really motivates me to get out there and work on actually creating a healthy yogi lifestyle for a better yogi me.
Yoga really puts me in the mood for a NATURAL, ORGANIC DIET AND ALL OF THAT GOOD STUFF.
I want all of the benefits that come with BEING A TRUE YOGI.
MY FLEXIBILITY IS INCREASING. This is a commonly-noted benefit of yoga, but I thought I would mention that it’s been true for me. It takes A LOT of practice and patience.
It took awhile for me to see progress but I'm pushing myself everyday.
I’m more flexible and agile, although I have yet to achieve the flexibility of a full split yet.
I'm less tense. So many forms of exercise create soreness and tension. Although yoga has that capability as well, yoga provides stretches that can ease the tension in your body and alleviate muscle pain.
With yoga, I’ve been able to stretch parts of my body that I didn’t know needed stretching.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, “YOGA PROVIDES US TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES TO LEAD A STRESS-FREE AND A TENSION-FREE LIFE.”
On yoga-less days, I experience a YOGA WITHDRAWAL.
Like with all exercise, sometimes it just doesn’t happen. You’re too busy or too tired, etcetera, etcetera. I really dislike those days, because not only am I too busy to practice my yoga or do anything else for myself, but I miss yoga!
I MISS THE CALMING ELEMENTS AND TENSION-RELIEVING POSES. I miss the peace it creates within me during and after the practice.
I feel healthier. WITH YOGA, I FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF. I feel happier, more in control, more flexible, and so much more.
Overall, I feel healthier. I am healthier. I still enjoy other forms of exercise, but yoga is no typical form of exercise. IT’S HEALING AND EMPOWERING. It’s given me a path to happiness and peace every single day, and that is a beautiful thing.
