Winter comes and it seems as if we all wish we were bears: getting ready to hide away from the world and go into hibernation. The warm flickering fire seems like a nice place to sit by and that marshmallow hot cocoa is calling your name. It’s a wintery trance where nothing seems better than curling up and Netflix binging the day away as the snow falls outside.
With this wintery trance, though, comes a slowing metabolism. You’re probably exercising less, eating more chocolate decadents, and ultimately forcing your metabolism to slow down.

Eating breakfast itself can help boost your metabolism, but it’s even better to have something nutritious like oatmeal. The fiber contained in oatmeal will make your body work a little harder as the fiber is digested, therefore burning more calories.
Plus, a warm breakfast is the perfect start to a cold and chilly day.
DRINK MORE WATER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED TO
In the summer, it’s pretty easy to remember to stay hydrated with the hot sun and parched throat that you may be familiar with. A cold drink of water is easily remembered. As winter comes, people often drink less and less water, even though winter requires that hydration as well. That’s why we suggest drinking more water than you may think you need. This will help you to stave off hydration and keep your metabolism going at a good rate. If you are craving holiday-themed drinks, you can have them and be healthy at the same time with fruit infused water.
There are quite a few recipes, such as combining pears and cinnamon sticks, which make your water tasty and fill your desires for a holiday flavor. Even when you’re visiting Santa, seeing Christmas lights, or driving to see family, you can take your fruit infused water with you. GET SOME SLEEP.
It turns out that curling up in front of the fire isn’t so bad for your metabolism after all. Truthfully, you still shouldn’t sleep the day away, but it’s good to use your wintery days to get the rest you may not always get.
Don’t sleep too long, but sleep as long as you should be. 8-9 hours is often recommended. This can help boost up your metabolism along with other things such as your mood and energy.
MOVE THE WORKOUTS INDOORS
If you are struggling to get up and go work out, perhaps you need to switch up the location of your workouts. If getting to the gym requires bundling up and driving on icy roads, it’s no wonder that the frequency of your workouts has lessened. Stay warm and let your own home be the gym.

With plenty of water, sleep, healthy food, and exercise, you should be well on your way to boosting your metabolism. Winter doesn’t have to be a time for hibernation. It can be a time to live infinitely and maintain your fitness goals.
